Next Step in Spain
Next Step in Spain

Some of the Next Step interns have just returned from a mission trip to Benitachell, on the Costa Blanca, Spain. Altogether, there were 6 of us and we were working with Benitachell Christian Fellowship, a church that consists of expats and English speaking holiday makers. The church consists of mainly retired people who have moved to Spain from the UK.

In total, we were there for 10 days and spent time raising awareness of the church, getting to know the leadership and members of the congregation and trying to invest into and encourage them.

One of our key activities was to distribute 5000 leaflets on behalf of the church which gave us an opportunity to meet and talk to lots of people across the local area. We delivered leaflets to shops, restaurants and hotels as well as handing them to people on the street, at local markets and posting them through letter boxes. On our final Sunday with the church we were encouraged when a number of new couples and families visited, including one family with children aged 4 and 6: a real difference to the ageing congregation the church is used to!

As well as the leaflet drops, we also led a number of prayer walks around local towns and villages and took the opportunity to go to the top of the Cumbre del Sol, a local mountain, and pray over the towns below. During our time in Spain, two members of our group preached at the church, bringing encouraging messages about personal faith and growth and everybody was able to share their testimony at different points.

Towards the end of the week, we all enjoyed visiting local community groups including the volunteer fire station and local dog rescue centre. Of course, we also made time to go to the beach and sample the local ice cream parlours!

Thank you for your prayers, we are now looking forward to our Graduation from the Next Step on September 9th and the Graduation Service at Life Church on September 10th.
